Wild Futurism

My son Henry made this little film following the path of my poem / book, Wild Futurism. Wild Futurism is one of my letterpress printed single poem books. I made this book almost a year ago. The poem itself feels unbelievably relevant for this current time.  

I come by stars 

paddling down the river

following their line of light

My identity includes 

the loss of who

my people once were 

I speak the language 

whether or not 

anyone is ready to listen

I betray that which betrays life 

I walk on the tops of swords

I ride in an owls eye 

No shield is needed 

curiosity is my charge 

the water protects me 

I will die like I live 

to be human 

in a time like this 

I have settled on the truth that wildness is an inherent quality in all living things. Wildness is not uncontrollable or unruly. Wildness is instead a branch of relationship. The current re-centering is about expansive relationship. Thus Wild Futurism.  

These books are doing no good sitting on the shelf in my studio so I am making them available through what I hope is an incentive to engage with something handmade and tactile.

My deal is this. You can buy a one book for $5 or you can buy five for $20. My hope is that more people will do the latter with the intention of sending or giving copies of the poem to others who might appreciate it. The transference of human energy through handmade poetry rather than through simulacrum with online readings and performances.
