If there is a corrective action, always ride a bike.

A while back I decided to do things differently.  I stopped touring in a car and began carrying my instruments on my bicycle.  Soon I felt the need to make another change.  Instead of performing in traditional concert settings I began building tours around natural spaces, specifically around water. I wanted to give back, build communities, and learn more from the people and places I visited.

Was a three week circumnavigation of Lake Superior by bicycle with a vision to unify communities through song, discussion, and storytelling. Acting as a charter bearer to the Great Lakes Commons, I used their visionary Commons Charter in my performances as an invitation to a broad and inclusive conversation concerning the state of our fresh water.

  • How can we change our stories about water?
  • How can we become better ancestors, teaching our children that the health of our water, communities
    and ecosystems are interdependent?
  • How would our relationship and treatment of water change if we understood it as a shared gift
with tied responsibilities, instead of as a resource to exploit?
  • How can we act on behalf of the water as a commons to ensure the perpetual care of Lake Superior?

Was a  national music and stewardship based bicycle tour from Minneapolis to New Orleans. I performed along the way at bike shops, farms, music venues, schools and other non traditional spaces linking communities to the river through bicycles, stories, song and poetry.
